COMMONS MAGAZINE

I am a writer and late blooming-activist—I made enormous changes that included adopting a new set of ideas (or probably more accurately finally listening to something had been trying to get my attention for a long time) after I turned 50. I turned my house into a collective house, began dumpster diving, staying up late, keeping chickens and generally transgressing in a way that I find infinitely sustaining. After six years we’re selling that house and planning to open a more expansive community project that will include collective living, but also be a public demonstration model of sustainable practices that include not just permaculture and graywater, but sustainable relationships between people and communities. Our working name for the project is The Commons—which is what led me to find this project.
