An Update on the Great Lakes Tour

On the Commons, Council of Canadians, FLOW, and others travel to communities around the Great Lakes

Council of Canadians Chairperson Maude Barlow, a longtime collaborator and a leader of the Great Lakes Commons Initiative, just visited the first five cities in a tour of seven. The tour, which was co-organized by Council of Canadians, FLOW, On the Commons and others, allows Barlow to speak to Great Lakes’ communities about the range of serious threats to the Lakes and the positive steps, including the creation of a Great Lakes Social Charter and strengthening the Public Trust, we can all take to claim and protect our Lakes.

The Great Lakes Commons tour passed through Duluth, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rochester, New York, and Toronto, Ontario this Spring. On the Commons will help Council of Canadians, FLOW, and other allies organize the second part of the Great Lakes tour. Stay tuned for additional tour dates and locations, and learn more at “www.canadians.org”:http://canadians.org/blog/?p=19807.

The following tour dates and descriptions have been excerpted from the Council of Canadians website:

Bayfield, Ontario
September 28
Bayfield is located on Lake Huron, just 100 kilometres north of Sarnia, Ontario. The Globe and Mail recently reported that Royal Dutch Shell has unveiled plans to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Sarnia and then ship that gas on freighters on the Great Lakes. The LNG terminal in Sarnia would be completed by 2016. More on this “here”:http://canadians.org/blog/?p=19752.
